Yungblud is a force that can’t be tamed. Since the release of his debut album, 21st Century Liability, last year, he’s set about becoming the punk icon for the younger generation, with his razor-sharp lyricism tackling societal issues head on. 2019 has seen his career reach dizzying new heights, from his chart-smashing hit with Halsey, to shutting down London in support of latest release, ‘Hope For The Underrated Youth’, anything is possible for the anarchic artist. Charli XCX

MAIN STAGE

There’s one more thing Charli XCX has to do before the release of her album next month, and that’s to deliver the most badass performance of the entire Reading and Leeds festival weekend. We don’t think she’ll have any trouble. The pop powerhouse has spent much of the year dangling carrots from her upcoming full-length, Charli, in front of fans’ faces and leaving everyone desperate for more. Collaborating with music heavyweights, including Lizzo, Christine & The Queens and Troye Sivan, there’s no doubt that the record will be in the running for biggest pop album of the year and personally, we can’t wait to see how she executes it live.

slowthai

BBC RADIO 1 STAGE

Things just keep getting better and better for Northampton rapper, slowthai. His debut album, Nothing Great About Britain, is one of the most talked about records of the year and recently received a nod in the Mercury Music Prize nominations, whilst his brilliantly boisterous anthems have become the soundtrack to a BREXIT Britain. Bursting with energy and a mischievous personality, his live shows are never a bore and he’s always thinking of ways to change the game – more recently, by selling every ticket to his headline tour for a fiver. Unsurprisingly, it sold out instantly, so his set at Reading and Leeds will be one of the few places to catch him before the year is out, and we’re pretty sure his performance will go down in festival history.

Two more mixtapes followed, including a collaborative release with Gunna, and he’s not slowing down either, continuously dropping new tracks and watching his career soar. Despite their time on the road, they’ve still found time to put the finishing touches to their forthcoming debut album, which looks set to be full of more of the euphoric indie bangers we’ve grown to love from the band, although sadly no small harps will be included, as we found out in our recent interview with them.
