How Important Is Music When It Comes To Dating?

Posted: Tuesday 17 December 2019

What is it that first attracts you to someone? Their looks? Their style? What about their music taste?

Although we tend to decide if we fancy someone or not based on our first impression, there’s some vital components that make or break a flourishing romance and music is one of the most important factors. According to research conducted by dating app, Badoo, 87% of people believe that music matters in a relationship, with 70% saying that a shared taste in music is a really important quality they look for in a partner.

This got us thinking, does the genre of music that people listen to affect how they are in relationships? Are hip hop fans more romantic than metal heads? Apparently so.

According to Badoo’s research, world music and hip hop fans are all about the romance, whereas alternative rock and folk lovers tend to be the most honest. If adventure is what you’re looking for in a relationship, then you best dig out your favourite band tee, because punk fans are the most up for trying new activities.

More of an intimate lover? Hip hop and dance fans are the self-confessed best kissers, whilst metallers think that sex is highly important in a relationship, as well as being the most likely to believe in "the one". However, keen folk and jazz listeners we are looking at you, because according to Badoo’s research, you’re the ones who have cheated in the past and find it hard to commit. Stay away from the sad singer-songwriters girls, they will cause you nothing but trouble.

If you’re sat there agreeing with the above and rank music taste as one of the most attractive parts of a person, then what better way to impress your music match than at a gig? Live shows make the perfect date night and you’ve already got one thing in common – you love the band - so the chances are there are plenty of other things that you’re both passionate about. Plus, 15% of singletons said they’d prefer to go on a date to a gig than to a pub quiz or cocktails.

So, what are you waiting for? Find your local venue below and invite that cute person you’ve been talking to out for a night of love and live music. You can pop our invite to the wedding in the post.
