Posted: Friday 5 July 2019

Head to West London this Sunday and you’ll stumble across Citadel festival at Gunnersbury Park. A cosmic experience featuring talks, workshops and some fantastic music, it’s the best way to round-up your week.

Got your ticket? Here are five acts you have to see while you’re there.

CATFISH AND THE BOTTLEMEN

Heading up proceedings are Catfish and the Bottlemen, who’ll proudly close the main stage Sunday night to an army of indie-lovers. Releasing their third album, The Balance, earlier this year, they’ve firmly cemented their space in the indie-rock hierarchy and continue to better themselves live, recently selling out an almighty arena tour across the UK. Set to be one of the standout performances of the summer, it’ll be the beginning of Catfish’s bright future of becoming festival headliners worldwide.

FONTAINES D.C.

Fontaines D.C. are one of three indie-punk bands from Dublin playing Citadel this weekend, (see below for the others) and they absolutely deserve your attention. Making a name for themselves with relentless touring, brash and sweaty live shows and a distinctive tone, they’ve become one of the most talked about bands of the moment. Their debut album, Dogrel, is a frenetic, poetic and downright brilliant attempt of a record and there’s no doubt that their slot at Citadel will be an equally as impressive performance.

INHALER

Next up, there's Inhaler, who are a fresh-faced rock ‘n’ roll outfit straight out of Dublin and they’ll be making a beautiful racket at Citadel this weekend. Inspired by the likes of Joy Division and The Stone Roses, they’re giving the old-school sound a face lift and bringing it right up to date with their gritty tones and hyperactive energy. They’ve already sold out multiple dates on their upcoming headline tour and have even extended it to squeeze in as many cities as they can, so once you’ve had your mind blown by their performance at Citadel, come along and see them later this year.

BEAR'S DEN

They stunned us earlier this year with the release of their third full-length album, So that you might hear me, and now they’re set to stun us once again by transforming their haunting and emotionally powerful new material, live. Bear’s Den are renowned for their unforgettable performances, growing their live band each time to deliver a truly special experience, so don’t be surprised if you get goosebumps when you watch their headline on the Communion stage.

THE MURDER CAPITAL

Scrappy punk newcomers, The Murder Capital, also hailing from Dublin, are tipped as one of the most exciting names of the summer having already caused carnage at festivals recently. Despite their solid outer layer, they’re tender at heart and their debut album, When I have Fears, is a striking collection of songs that tackle loss, grief and the transformation into adulthood. Catch them at Citadel and you just might hear some of the album’s tracks before it’s officially released next month.
