Johnny Marr

Courteeners

2018 saw Manchester icons, the Courteeners celebrate the 10th anniversary of their gold-selling debut album, St. Jude in style. Headline festival appearances and main stage slots at Reading and Leeds kept them busy over the summer, and they’ll round up the year with a headline tour that sees them return to O2 Academy Brixton once more. With five albums to their name now, the band have carved their own legacy in the British indie scene and remain as one of greatest bands to hail from Manchester.

The Twang

2017 was an important year for The Twang, with the Brummy indie rockers honouring the 10th anniversary of their debut album, Love It When I Feel Like This with a huge headline tour. Embrace

Embrace emerged from the post-Britpop era of the late nineties and have consistently delivered heartfelt songs with sweeping melodies throughout their career. 2018 not only saw the band release their seventh album, Love Is A Basic Need but it also marks the 21st anniversary of their seminal debut full-length, The Good Will Out. The UK may as well adopt Mona. Though far from their hometown of Nashville, the band have spent a substantial amount of time over here this year, and they’ll back again in the winter. The band first sent people head over heels for their rock ‘n’ roll swagger with their self-titled debut album in 2011, which had an addictive blues-rock sound weaving through indie rhythms and everything they've released since has cemented them as one of the coolest bands on offer right now.

White Lies

A lot can change in a decade and for White Lies, 2019 will see them reflecting greatly on the past 10 years of their career. There’s a lot of big anniversaries happening within the British indie world over the next year and Starsailor are another band to add to the list. 15 years on from the release of their gold-certified album, Silence Is Easy and the four-piece are hitting the road to perform the record in its entirety. A special event in itself, the band have also decided to bring a string section along with them, which will see the music truly come to life and create a magical atmosphere that will be hard to forget. KT Tunstall stormed onto the scene back in 2004 with her phenomenal debut album, Eye To The Telescope and over the past 14 years has released six more albums, including recent offering, WAX. Mogwai

Though perhaps the least known in terms of mainstream success, Mogwai are in fact one of the most distinguished bands in this piece. Formed in 1995, they’ve released a total of nine albums, each more mesmerising than the last. Largely instrumental, their dynamic, atmospheric sound has captured people’s feelings worldwide and has seen them deliver some of the finest live performances ever seen. Praised also for their work on numerous film scores, Mogwai are the band who have quietly wormed their way into your minds without you knowing, but you’ll never want them to leave.
