Congratulations to Tree House Fire on beating the competition in Bristol. O2 Academy caught up with them ahead of the Fireball Fuelling The Fire Tour to talk about overcoming distance as a band and wanting to be party pals with David Attenborough.
"First things first; where’d the name come from?
"Well, there are a couple of versions floating about... some say it's the evolution of human dwellings but in truth, it's a logo that Sam drew at school thinking it'd make a sweet t-shirt brand!"
Talk us through your songwriting process – do you have any strange rituals like picking song themes out of a hat or from fortune cookies?
"We write in a lot of different ways. Given the band are split between England and Wales, we use technology a lot! Some songs come from writing with a guitar and sending voice notes across for everyone to add to, or Dai and Dash will come up with music on Mac - they're wizards - and we'll use that as a basis for a demo and write the lyrics for it!"
We know it’s a tough decision, but who’s your favourite band on the bill?
"That is genuinely the toughest question! Reel Big Fish bring the party vibe hard, Mad Caddies smash out so many bangers and Anti-Flag are genius too! Is it too much of a rubbish answer to say all of them?"
If you were to win Fireball’s Hottest Band 2018, how would you celebrate it?
"Well, we do like to celebrate... chuck a few calls out to pals, get some bands involved and sort out a house party! There will obviously be a fair few bottles of Fireball too!"
If you could knock back a Fireball shot with any three people (dead or alive), who would it be?
"That's a pretty tough question too! I reckon we'd go for the legendary Bob Marley, he was a proper inspiration and full of nice vibes! Second would be Bradley Nowell from Sublime; he wrote so many bangers and you know he partied hard. Third up I reckon we'd love to hang with David Attenborough! He's another absolute legend in his field and he's got such a passion for what he does! They'd be sweet party pals!"
