With so many huge acts in and out of our doors, it’s easy to forget those that are out there, tirelessly working their way up to the top who deserve your attention. This week, we’re putting the spotlight on Aussie pop-punk trio, Stand Atlantic.
For Fans Of: Seaway, Neck Deep, Tonight Alive
Essential Listening: ‘Coffee At Midnight’ and ‘Sidewinder’
Australia is known for many things, its beautiful beaches, its relaxed way of life and y’know, the spiders. But, what it’s becoming increasingly more known for is the amount of brilliant bands coming out of its alternative music scene and Stand Atlantic are the latest export to get your teeth stuck into.
Stand Atlantic consist of three friends, Bonnie Fraser – who handles all the badass vocals and guitar duties, Jonno Panichi on drums and David Potter on bass. Together, they make gritty, yet sweet pop-punk that easily appeals to the masses, and their quick rise is only further proof as to why you need to pay attention to them.
Having earned a name for themselves on the Australian live circuit by opening for bands such as With Confidence and As It Is, the trio then took their sound global with the release of their debut EP, Sidewinder, released via European label, Rude Records (Zebrahead, American Hi-Fi).
Sidewinder went down a storm in the pop-punk world and got heads turning all over the globe, with the bittersweet ‘Coffee At Midnight’ hitting you like a triple espresso and ‘Mess I Made’ just begging to be crowdsurfed to, it quickly became one of the strongest pop-punk records of the year.
Despite only being released in September, it’s taken the band on an almighty journey. From their first UK tour with Roam (and then their first headline show) to European legs with State Champs and further travels across their homeland with Knuckle Puck and New Found Glory – Stand Atlantic have become the band that everyone wants on tour with them, but once you experience them live, it’s easy to see why.
More recently, the band have appeared at Slam Dunk Festival, been nominated for Best International Breakthrough at the Heavy Music Awards and have been announced for even more tours, including a stateside leg with Neck Deep and a slot on THE pop-punk tour of 2018 with State Champs in the UK. All of this, whilst spending all day every day in the studio making the most beastly debut album that they’re capable of.
One thing’s for sure, you’re going to be seeing and hearing a lot more from Stand Atlantic over the next year and if you can’t hold out on hearing the album, pop Sidewinder on and listen to it on repeat until the end of time, guaranteed you won’t regret it.
