There aren’t many things better than discovering a new artist whose music you instantly connect with. Whether they’re touring the nation making their name or supporting big acts globally, we’re here to put a spotlight on the musically-gifted people with a bright future ahead of them. This week, we’re introducing you to indie-pop three-piece, Only The Poets.
For Fans Of: Pale Waves, Two Door Cinema Club, The Wombats
Essential Listening: ‘Stolen Bikes’ and ‘Even Hell’
1. a person who writes or performs poetry
2. a person with great imagination and creativity
Well, Only The Poets may not be performers of poetry, at least not in its traditional form, but great imagination and creativity is something they certainly do have. The Reading-born band may still be young in terms of their career, but they’ve already crammed in an impressive amount of festival performances and scored backing from some of radio’s biggest names.
As summer appears to be arriving early this year, you can start hunting down your breezy, sunny anthems now and Only The Poets make the perfect addition to your soundtrack. Jangling guitars are led by bouncing, euphoric vocal melodies that are best listened to with a cold drink in your hand. Take latest single, ‘Stolen Bikes’ for example, its harmonies alone are enough to fall in love with, but the up-tempo drum patterns and kaleidoscopic layers come together to create the ultimate indie-pop anthem.
The track follows on from last year’s singles, ‘Even Hell’ and ‘Dead Young’, which established Only The Poets as a band with their feet firmly on the ground and racing forward at an alarming speed. BBC Introducing and Radio 1 have highlighted them as ones to watch, Made In Chelsea have used their songs to accompany its dramatic scenes and they’ve also received praise from Apple Music, Radio X and many, many more. Not bad, right? Add to that, support slots with the Hooziers and Coasts and performances at the UK’s most credible festivals, (Reading & Leeds, Truck, Live At Leeds) and you’ve got a band with a notable resume.
Their live shows are always a must-see and 2018 saw them sell out three headline performances in London alone, with the rest of the UK catching up quick. Having completed a nationwide tour earlier this year, it won’t be long before the boys are back and taking over even bigger venues, so we strongly advise not wasting time on grabbing your tickets while you can.
