New Music Blog: Hot Milk

Posted: Wednesday 13 March 2019

There aren’t many things better than discovering a new artist whose music you instantly connect with. Whether they’re touring the nation making their name or supporting big acts globally, we’re here to put a spotlight on the musically-gifted people with a bright future ahead of them. This week, we’re introducing you to emo power-pop group, Hot Milk

For Fans Of: All Time Low, With Confidence, State Champs
Essential Listening: ‘Take Your Jacket’

Don’t know about you, but we enjoy a cup of hot milk from time to time, it’s comforting and helps you sleep, which is the complete opposite of what this Manchester quartet do.

Beginning life less than two years ago, Hot Milk are the latest band to hit the alternative music scene with aplomb. Bouncing melodies, dual vocals and some of the biggest choruses you’ve ever heard are just part of what makes up their sound and you’ll find yourself hovering over the repeat button from the first listen. If your record collection includes some of pop-punk’s finest, like New Found Glory and Blink 182, or if your playlists are full of bands such as Waterparks and As It Is, then Hot Milk are going to slot in just nicely.

Bored of the 9-5 and with an unbearable itch to follow their dreams, Vocalists Hannah Mee and Jim Shaw quit their jobs last year to pursue music full time, roping in friends Tom Paton and Harry Deller to join the party. Making that jump was probably one of the best decisions they’ve ever made, as shortly after launching into the world with debut single, ‘Awful Ever After’ at the start of 2019, they were out on the road with You Me At Six in Europe and were rapidly growing a hardcore fanbase.

‘Awful Ever After’ was just the beginning though, a brooding anthem that pushes boundaries, it was a huge statement from a band so young in their career and forced people to pay attention to them. They turned the heads of the right people too, because two months after the single’s release and the band are now confirmed to play Download Festival, Reading and Leeds and are opening for a small band called Foo Fighters this summer. Yeah, we’re impressed too.

Bundling into March with their outrageously fun second single, ‘Take Your Jacket’, the band quickly claimed the biggest bop of the year award and offered another sweet taste of what’s in the pipeline. Fortunately, we don’t have too long to wait to find out what that is either, as their debut EP, Are You Feeling Alive, lands on May 3rd.

Before then though, they’ll be squeezing in a tour supporting Deaf Havana across the UK and kicking things off for Papa Roach at their sold out show in London. Seriously, can someone tell Hot Milk to slow it down a bit?

So, if you want to see what this lot are all about then come down to one of the busy dates in their calendar and soak up the Hot Milk goodness:
