A Q&A with Fireball Fuelling the Fire O2 Academy Glasgow Finalist - Lost In Stereo

Posted: Monday 25 September 2017

Congratulations to Lost in Stereo on beating the competition in Glasgow. O2 Academy caught up with them ahead of the Fireball Fuelling The Fire Tour to talk about Reel Big Fish, knocking shots back with Karl Pilkington and deciding on a band name.

First things first; where’d the name come from?

"It's quite common for pop punk bands to take their names from another band in their genre and as (perhaps not so much nowadays) some of us listened to All Time Low, we chose one of their songs. Mainly, because we sat around for ages and couldn't think of a good name ourselves and didn't want to end up being called 'Hometown Pizza Heartbreak'..."

Talk us through your songwriting process – do you have any strange rituals like picking themes out of a hat or from fortune cookies?

"We have a load of energy when it comes to songwriting. Sometimes it's fairly professional, especially when we're all on a similar wavelength and we sit around and actually get stuff done. Other times someone goes off on their own little musical tangent, at least one other person likes it, and for some reason, it sticks."

We know it’s a tough decision, but who’s your favourite band on the bill?

"Very tough question and it split the band. It would have to be Anti-Flag and Reel Big Fish when we're drunk. Dean demanded it be known that he likes Reel Big Fish all the time."

If you were to win Fireball’s Hottest Band 2018, how would you celebrate it?

Ellis: "Get very, very, very drunk so I forget it, then relive the moment the day after when I get the awesome news again."
Andrew: "Write my first Facebook status in 6 years."
Jon: "I probably won't do much."
Dean: "I'll punch my sister (in a kid-on way of course!)"

If you could knock back a shot with any three people (dead or alive), who would it be?

"Karl Pilkington, Charlie Day (as Charlie Kelly from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Rick Sanchez (from Rick and Morty)"
