O2 Academy Bournemouth originally opened as The Grand Pavilion Theatre in 1895 with various incarnations over the years. It was first used as a circus, and in 1899 became The Boscombe Grand Theatre for its music hall days and The Boscombe Hippodrome several years later. In recent times it has converted to a dance hall, a Royal Ballroom and was a renowned venue for the disco era of the 70s, club acts of the 80s and the dance explosion of the 90s.

In July 2009, Academy Music Group acquired the stunning Grade II listed building and the venue's launch night saw the XX supporting and Florence and the Machine, showing off the acoustics of this wonderful theatre to a sold out crowd. 

The building boasts a magnificent interior with period features, including the proscenium arch, art-deco styling and ornate steel work. A stunning theatre, the main auditorium is the heart of the venue, and there are three levels for seating, plus royal boxes and booths.

BOX OFFICE
We operate our own guest list and box office from the venue entrance and provide staffing for this from 30 minutes before doors. We will happily deal with all your guest lists from our box office. Please contact the box office manager if you have any guest list queries.

CURFEW
The Venue operates a strict 11pm curfew.

MERCHANDISE
Merch desk is situated against the wall left of the front of house desk. Please contact our designated agent CMI Ltd. to discuss merchandise arrangements for your show. Tel: 0121 683 0901. Their current rate of commission based on gross official merchandise sales is 25% plus VAT.
In the event that CMI aren’t vending the venue imposes a facility fee of 12p/head + VAT to sell merchandise. This does not include a vendor, though with notice this can be arranged.

SECURITY
Security is provided by Showsec International Ltd. and booked through the Venue, please contact the general manager for details, or to discuss any specific security requirements.

LOCAL CREW
Local crew is provided via Rock City and booked through the venue. Crew calls are for a minimum of 5 hours. Cost of crew member per hour including stop over is £14.00. If 4 or more crew are required, a crew boss is also required at £16.00 per hour. Catering Assistant is £13.00 an hour.

BACKSTAGE FACILITIES
There are 4 dressing rooms, 1 production / promoter’s office, 2 showers, 2 showers with toilets and 3 toilets backstage.
There is pay vending laundry facilities available in the venue carpark.

CATERING FACILITIES
Catering can be set up in our purpose built kitchen.
Kitchen has the facility to connect cooking equipment to gas that can be secured in a locked cupboard external to the building. The venue has numerous tables and 400 chairs available for dining. There is a separate area for washing up, glass wash and ice machine. Any touring catering company wishing to use the venues facilities must fill out and return the ‘Visiting Caterers Agreement’ form available from the technical manager.
Please contact the technical manager if you require a catering assistant.

BARRIER
Included with the hire of the venue and fixed at a distance of 1.2m is a Mojo-style ‘blow through’ front of stage pit barrier, for audience safety we insist this be used on all standing format shows. The FOH position is also protected with Mojo at the front of the position and at the sides and back by pedestrian barrier.

PARKING
Please make sure all vehicles park in this area and not down the lane.
If they do park in the lane, they will be woken by shopping centre security and told to move.

LOAD-IN
If your drivers are able to move for load in then then this will make everybody’s life easier we can use the lane to load in.
Once load in has been finished all vehicle’s must return to the proper parking area.
